Transana is a software analysis program designed particularly for qualitative research involving the use of audio and video data. It was developed at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Centre for Education Research (WCER), and while initially intended for educational research purposes, Transana is a comprehensive program that can be applied to a variety of research areas in which audio or video are used, and can accommodate anything from short clips to entire libraries of data. It facilitates transcription, categorization, data mining and theory building.

A CVM-sponsored introductory workshop to Transana was held on February 6th, 2007, with participants coming from Edgewood, Pietermaritzburg, and Howard College campuses. For more information on Transana, visit the Transana website.
