Honours Module
The goal of this course is to develop an awareness of the role that language and media plays in contemporary lives and the correspondingly critical task of education about them;
to introduce educators to recent theoretical developments and to inform practical engagement in the field of language and media education.
Cinematic, Television, & Documentary Texts
Graduate module
The purpose of this module is to examine cinematic, television and documentary texts within Visual Studies. The Focus is on contemporary issues in childhood and youth culture. Theories of viewing and spectatorship, and entertainment and pleasure are considered with particular attention to commodification, globalization and Disney-fication. Ideological and discursive analysis introduces a range of social, political and aesthetic debates in relation to gender, race, class and power.
